I love Sarah...and Steamboat!!

After many years of promising to visit, I FINALLY made it back to Steamboat to visit Sarah! How could I not after she came all the way out here and sat through my thesis defense?? She was the talk of all my friends - everyone kept saying they couldn't believe she flew all the way out here just for my defense. That's why I loooooove her!! So, thanks to my mom, I was able to go to Steamboat for a long weekend, and it was one of the best weekends EVER! I flew out Thursday night (Nov 8) - NY to Denver, Denver to Hayden. It was so nice not to have to drive 5hrs from Denver to Steamboat (Sarah thought it was pretty nice too that she didn't have to drive 10 hrs). Sarah picked me up at the airport and we went out for a few drinks with her friend Benny and rommie Heather. I think the bartender was the most drunk person in the place, and some of my drinks were really bad, but it was so fun to finally be there and hang out with Sarah! When she came out to NY I barely had any QT with her because there was so much going on, so this was great. Then I finally got to see Sarah's house! I had been waiting ever since she bought it to see pics, but she is not exactly the best at updating her pics online. It took her over a year to update her myspace page afterall...

The next morning Sarah had to work for a bit, and so did I, so I did my work and then ran around her house taking pics so I could show everyone. Let me just say that her house is AMAZING! It is so freaking cute, and she has it decorated so perfectly - everything is just perfect. So at long last, here it is...

This is a pic from the driveway...it's so cute!

This is the entry way, looking in the front door...
Need some sunglasses?
I really don't think Sarah has enough sunglasses...
Downstairs from the entry way is Heather's bedroom, and my bedroom which is pictured here. It was cute and cozy and even had a slider so I could walk outside right from my room :)
Back up the stairs is the living room...I loooove the red on the walls. It reminded me of my red room in Stamford...
This is the view from the living room...looking at the dining area and kitchen...
And here's the kitchen...how cute is this???
Off the dining area, there is a deck...
Where Sarah has a hammock, and her very own chair-lift swing! It was awesome!
This is the view from outside on the deck...
And this is the outside view from the deck...snow on the mountains but sadly, none in Steamboat...
Soooo pretty...
Up these stairs is a little loft-sort of area, where Sarah has her desk...
And past that is her bedroom/bathroom...this is obviously the bathroom...no door? Don't ask...
And this is her room! Love the changing screen!!
So cute!!

We met up with Sarah's mother Kathy, and Kathy's friend Janie (I think?) for lunch. I had the most delicious acovado/carmelized onion sandwich and butternut squash soup. It was great! Then we went to look at a townhouse that Kathy was thinking of buying. It was cute, and had some potential, but we all agreed that if you are going to make a purchase like that, you have to walk into it and say "THIS IS THE ONE! I HAVE TO HAVE IT". It's always fun to look though, and it totally made me want to buy a place!

We were going to enter into a chili cook-off on Sunday, so we decided to go out Friday afternoon to buy everything we would need. Our plan was to cook the chili on Saturday so it would have lots of time to cook and be yummy. Sarah said what she really wanted for her bday was a crock pot, but that no one got her one. Since we were planning on cooking the chili in a crock pot, we headed to walmart and I said I would buy her one since I didn't get her a bday present yet. So we flag down a salesperson, and ask her what the difference is between the crock pots. And she says something like this: "Well....this one is metal...this one is plastic....this one is silver...this one has flowers on it..." I'm being completely serious here. So I said to her "Ok, aside from the obvious physical characteristics, are there any differences in how they actually work? Would you reccommend any of these over another one?" And she said something like "Well...this one is only 3 cups, and this one has different sized bowls you can use...so...it depends what you want." Obviously she was no help. So as we were reading the descriptions under all the different pots, I saw this...
"Auto shit to warm fun". I had to read it a few times to make sure I was reading it right, and then pointed it out to Sarah and we laughed and decided we just had to get this one, because who doesn't like warm fun (whatever warm fun is)? So we headed back to Sarah's apt and just hung out all afternoon. Sarah FINALLY updated her myspace page for the first time in like 2 years, and I discovered why - she has no idea how to use myspace, and had no idea what was even written on her page. We became convinced that she didn't even write it, and that it must have been Mary Beth. We had some really yummy cheese and crackers and a few people came over to join us, and then Sarah showed me these shoes Ira (her dad) had bought for her. I love Ira, but I don't know what the heck he was thinking buying these. And Sarah told me that they look even worse on, so of course I had to try them on. She was definitely right...
That is one ugly shoe. Sarah took a picture with her phone and sent it to Ira saying "Mel loves the shoes". The funniest part about it is that he thought we were actually serious. I hope he doesn't get me a pair of those. Hahaha. Anyway, eventually we headed off to downtown Steamboat! Woohoo! We went to Mohogany (I think?) and had some food and drinks, and of course took lots of pics!

Here is Sarah...see how excited she is that I'm in town? Nice gloves :) And there is Heather in the background... Because we just don't have enough pics of me and Sarah, we had to get a few more! Yay!
Chip and Sarah and Benny...Sarah looks like the only one who is interested in having her picture taken...lol...
Here we are again...aren't we cute :)
Awwww cuties!!!
This is probably when the camera should have been put away, but of course it was just the beginning...
Nice gloves Sarah...perfect for holding 100 drinks at once...
This is my favorite picture of the whole weekend I think...
Uh oh...didn't quite get everyone in the pic...that's me and Sarah and Raquel...
Me, Raquel, Sarah and Heather...hot stuff!!
Poor Chip had to hang out with all us crazy girls and he wasn't even drinking! Brave man...
We moved on to another bar (Old Town Pub maybe?) to see Sarah's friend BA dj. I can't remember who the other girl is in this picture. I met so many people I can't keep them straight! and everyone has 15 nicknames which makes it even harder! Oh well...she looks like fun!
Me, Sarah and Heather...
We eventually made it home, and of course ate food and stayed up for a while. The next morning/afternoon Sarah, Heather, Raquel, Benny and I went to lunch at Freshies. We had some great bloody marys, and great food of course, and I got to meet a couple more of Sarah's friends. Then we took the party over to Slopeside to cause more trouble. Slopeside is the restaurant that you can actually ski right up to, and I think almost everyone in the town works there. We sat at the bar pretty much all afternoon, being loud and silly and having so much fun!

Here are me and Sarah at Slopeside. You may be thinking that my hair looks a little greasy. Well...that's because it was. I wanted to shower and everything, but didn't have time before we went to lunch. Oh well. At least I had the sunglasses to cover it up a little bit... Sarah, Heather and Raquel at the bar...Sarah kept making me do shots all afternoon. She would wait until I went to the bathroom and then say, "Quick! Pour the shots before Melanie gets back because she'll say no!" Then when I got back she would say "Uh oh! Shots again!" Damn that Sarah...

Me, Sarah, Raquel, Heather, Carrie and our lovely bartender (they had some nickname for him but I can't remember what it was)...Carrie and Chip were working when we got there, and we stayed so long that they finished their shifts and started partying with us....LOL
A little reverse motorboat action! I don't understand Steamboat's obsession with the motorboat, but it sure is funny :)
Me and Chip...hehe
The sunglasses crew! Sarah, Heather, Carrie, and I think that's BA at the end...
Here we are in the car on our way...somewhere. I beleive to visit Benny at the liquor store and then to Sarah's house...
Here we are at Sarah's...is she trying to steal my brain? Or perhaps hypnotize me into moving in with her and living in Steamboat? Hmmm...
Apparently when Heather has had a bit too much to drink she likes to wrestle people. She took down just about everyone in the place, including me. But I am proud to say I didn't spill my beer! She also tackled Sarah at one point...poor Sarah hit her head on the wall, and a plant fell over...it was hilarious. Here are O'Malley and Heather...she may have met her match!
For some reason, everyone was obsessed with doing yoga headstands all night. Sarah was definitely the master, but Chip wasn't bad either...
O'Malley needed a little help...or a lot of help...
Eventually we headed downtown to a mexican restaurant (The Cantina?) to see Justin and his wife (I'm blanking on her name - crap). I hadn't seen Justin in FOREVER, and since he and his wife just had the cutest baby they wanted to actually go out and not hang out in someone's house, so we went and met up with them. We were loud and I'm sure our waitor hated us, and someone started ordering tequila shots...bad news. I did one, and then was smart enough to make Chip to the rest of mine...poor guy...

We also got the great idea at some point to make the longest straw ever...and then of course had to test it out. It totally worked!

O'Malley was very excited about his straw...

I have no idea what I'm doing here, but hopefully I'm saying no to another shot...
Yay Justin!!
Another point of view from the longest straw ever...
Hehe don't we look cozy?
Sarah and Justin....
Not it! For what I have no idea...probably paying since I think there was some problem with the check...
Overall it was a really fun night! Maybe too much fun, because I was really hurting the next day. Drinking with Colorado people when you're from Sea Level is tough, but I think I held up pretty well. Sarah, Raquel, and O'Malley went to lunch and I stayed home to sleep more...and to start making the chili, which we totally forgot about on Saturday. It was seriously hard work to make myself get up to cut all the veggies and whatnot, but eventually I felt better and got into it. Sarah came home with a pizza for me, and helped to spice up the chili! She had wanted to write down the recipe as we made it, but I told her it would be a little hard to write down "a few dashes of this, a few quirts of this, wait a little more of this, and this, and this..." Haha. The chili came out GREAT, but at some point I told Sarah "I don't really feel like going to the chili cook-off" and she said "Oh good...neither do I". So we invited some people over and just ate the chili with them, and then went to a movie afterwards. It was Me, Chip, Sarah, Benny, Heather and her bf Michael...triple date!! Chip had already seen it, but was ok with sitting through it again. It was so fun to be at the movies again - it had been a while for me! And the movie was good! A bit long, but really good. We all just went home and passed out after the movie.

Monday morning Sarah had her 6:30am spin class that she teaches at her house! I can't believe she gets up that early and actually teaches people and is perky! SO unlike the college-days Sarah...but the class sounded like fun - the music was great! While she was showering and getting ready after the class, Chip and I went out and got coffee and bagels, and I learned that he is not much of a morning person either. He had just told me that he hadn't been up this early in a loooong time (it was about 7:30am), and we walked into the bagel shop and I thought the guy behind the counter was going to pass out. He looked at Chip and said "Wow...I can't believe it...what the hell are you doing awake?...Seriously, I feel like I'm in the twilight zone!" It was pretty funny. We brought the food back to the house and we were all lounging around and I told Sarah that we better get going to the airport, so eventually she gets her stuff together, and then her friend calls and asks for a ride to her car. So Chip and Sarah and I go pick her up, and on the way to her car, Sarah looks at the clock and says "Wait, what time is your plane?" and I said "10?" - it was about 8:50 at this point. Sarah's friend says "OMG! You will never make it! They won't let you check in if you don't get there 45 minutes before the flight! Ok, just let me out here! I'll walk the rest of the way to my car!". So we let her out, and Sarah tells Chip to "Drive like the wind." We got there around 9:40 or so, and the lady behind the counter was not happy at all when I told her I was checking in, but she still let me on the plane anyway. There was some problem with security anyway, so all the flights were a bit delayed, and I wasn't even the last one to get on the plane!

I made it back home after a few annoying delays coming into Laguardia, and found my apt and my baby Bella in great shape - thank you Nada for taking such good care of them while I was gone!! I was really sad when I left Colorado - that was the most fun I have had with Sarah in a while, and it totally made me want to move right out there and be rommies with her again!! But I will be back...because I didn't learn to ski! Love you Sarah!!!
